FEM de Día 2022 includes activities throughout the weekend such as parades, concerts and workshops
The 16th edition of Fuerteventura en Música will host a program of day activities, which will be held on July 1, 2 and 3, organized by the Council of Culture of the Cabildo and the cultural association Cotillo Joven.
For the Minister of Culture, Rayco León, Fuerteventura in Music is more than concerts, so the festival maintains its clear message of environmental awareness with environmental workshops. Dance and body expression are also encouraged, with workshops aimed at all ages and that will allow them to continue connecting with the music and the rhythm of percussion instruments.
In short, a cultural weekend for the whole family with a parallel program that seeks to revitalize the town of El Cotillo, a multicultural town with great participation by neighbors. In this sense, León appreciates the participation of Cotillo Joven, who has years of experience energizing the town.
The activities will begin on Friday, July 1, with a parade from the Plaza de la Iglesia by the classic jazz band The Plunger Dixie Band. The parade will end at Playa de la Concha, the venue for the Fuerteventura en Música concerts, encouraging participation from the start.
The Plunger Dixie Band is a majorera dixie band that brings the sounds of hot-jazz from New Orleans. Made up of seven musicians who come from the island’s jazz scene, The Plunger Dixie Band offers a sound full of rhythm, expressiveness and improvisation, with a purely acoustic line-up based on wind instruments (trumpet, clarinet, tenor sax and trombone), accompanied by banjo, tuba, double bass and percussion.
On Saturday, July 2, the Muellito de Cotillo will host the parallel concerts by Mestura Jazz Band at 1:00 p.m., Hey Chabón at 2:00 p.m. and The Add at 6:00 p.m. That day there will also be workshops on body percussion (11:00 am), African dance (2:00 pm) and Afro jazz dance (6:00 pm) in the Plaza del Cotillo.
In addition, on July 2 and 3, environmental workshops will be held at Playa de la Concha, by the Marine Garbage Observatory of the Ministry of Environmental Sustainability and the Fuerteventura Biosphere Reserve. The sessions will take place, both days, at 12:00 and 17:00.
Performances
Mestura Jazz Band come from Fuerteventura, but also from countries like Cuba or Italy, creating a ‘musical metura’ that takes them through styles such as swing, bossa nova or Funky.
For its part, Hey Chabón offers “music for the soul”, making people dance to the rhythm of cumbia, samba, samba-reggae, son and other magical rhythms of the Earth. It is a unique and unrepeatable show that always leaves you wanting more, with a guitar accompanied only by percussion and vocals.
Finally, the musical group The ADD was born to unite sounds of different instruments from around the world. Percussion is the protagonist, with tribal drums and metal melodicas. Instruments from different cultures with various sonorities and effects were added, completing the scene with guitar and voice plays.
